FANTASY. Return to the world of the Liveships Traders and journey along the Rain Wild River in this standalone adventure from the author of the internationally acclaimed Farseer trilogy. Guided by the great blue dragon Tintaglia, they came from the sea: a Tangle of serpents fighting their way up the Rain Wilds River, the first to make the perilous journey to the cocooning grounds in generations. Many have died along the way. With its acid waters and impenetrable forest, it is a hard place for any to survive. People are changed by the Rain Wilds, subtly or otherwise. One such is Thymara. Born with black claws and other aberrations, she should have been exposed at birth. But her father saved her and her mother has never forgiven him. Like everyone else, Thymara is fascinated by the return of dragons: it is as if they symbolise the return of hope to their war-torn world.

"I think this was my least favorite of the whole Elderlings saga, and the end was so abrupt. But again, Hobbs takes time setting up the story and giving her characters time to show themselves. I love the rain wilds’ magical undercurrent, and while I was skeptical at first I think (hope) Ill like the next book."

"This book is a conundrum. Its full of characters that I don't particularly like and at times can be unpleasant. At the same time, the world is interesting and the characters are well realized....my opinions on them changed throughout the book; some I liked more and some less as the book went on. And I did find myself more and more compelled as the book went on. Perhaps my biggest frustration is something I find all too often in book series....I didn't really feel this book told a whole story. I knew it would be continued in the next volume, but I didn't feel that this even tried to wrap up any plotlines. It just ended. That was the most disappointing thing about it."
