INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A REESE'S BOOK CLUB PICK“It’s perfection, every word, every moment. A masterpiece . . . One of the best books I’ve ever read.” —Lisa Jewell, #1 New York Times bestselling authorNew York Times bestselling author Gillian McAllister has created a thriller unlike any other in this endlessly clever, twisty story of a mother who must move backward through time to prevent tragedy from striking at the heart of her family. Can you stop a murder after it’s already happened? It is midnight on the morning of Halloween, and Jen anxiously waits up for her 18-year-old son, Todd, to return home. But worries about his broken curfew transform into something much more dangerous when Todd finally emerges from the darkness. As Jen watches through the window, she sees her funny, seemingly happy teenage son stab a total stranger. She doesn’t know who the victim is, or why Todd has committed such a devastating act of violence. All she knows is that her life, and Todd’s, have been shattered. After her son is taken into custody, Jen falls asleep in despair. But when she wakes up…it is yesterday. The murder has not happened yet—and there may be a chance to stop it. Each morning, when Jen wakes, she is further back in the past, first weeks, then years, before the murder. And Jen realizes that somewhere in the past lies the trigger for Todd’s terrible crime…and it is her mission to find it, and prevent it from taking place. Both the story of a mother’s love and the sacrifices she will make for her child, and a thriller with a brilliant twist, Wrong Place Wrong Time is a one-of-a-kind novel that begs to be read in one sitting.

"A crime novel in reverse, Memento on the page, another Reese Witherspoon domestic thriller that makes me question her judgment. You have to buy the conceit at the heart of the book: A woman sees a murder and spends nearly 400 pages going backward in time, waking up day by day, hour by hour, to ferret out how and why the murder occurred so she can solve it in the past and save her child and husband in the future. I did not buy the conceit of moving backward in time, though I could appreciate the notion of hoping to save parents and family from death and poor decisions. The book, which gives domestic thrillers a bad name, read as frantic and long-winded, the main character’s mommy obsession with her son bored me stiff and caused me to skim entire chapters, and the crime details were convoluted and tangled. The Goodreads reviews have been high, but for me, it was worth two stars, heavily plotted, not a standout, and not worth the tedium of 400 pages of details. No more Reese Witherspoon recommendations."
"This is one of the best thrillers and mysteries I have read this year. I was on the edge of my seat the whole book and couldn’t put it down. The plot of Jen going back in time slowly to try to figure out the “why” behind a murder was incredibly original and very well executed. Every twist or realization made sense and the use of suspense was perfect. I felt very invested in the story, motive, and characters the whole time. I wish I could go back and read it again for the first time. This was an excellent book, very quick read, and I would recommend most anyone to read it. 4.5/5"
"I have never read a book quite like this before. The inciting incident happens right away and the main female character is reliving snippets of the past to puzzle piece how her son got himself into the situation he is in. The breadcrumbs throughout the timeline helped me figure some things out but there were still some surprises!"
"My first book by Gillian and I was very impressed. From the first chapter the book was interesting and stayed steady till the end. Jen was your average mother with a wonderful husband and a typical teenage boy. Can I just say bravo for writing about a supportive well rounded husband. I can't count the times the husband as been the escape goat or a segway into the main character leaving and finding herself *roll eyes inserted here*. Some of us are happily married ya know, so it was great to be able to relate.

This time travel/groundhog day effect usually grinds at my nerves but the author took it in a unexpected direction. I'm honestly glad I decided to give it a chance because I wouldn't normally go for this sort of plot. It was interesting to go back little by little and see Jen's life thru fresh eyes. Then on top of that, Jen herself gained a new perspective.

Also I struggled with Jen on what to do with her new found ride thru the past. Imagine getting to see old love ones again. Trying to change the future. Tracking down clues that will lead up to your son becoming a murderer. Which do you choose? Jen blamed herself for little things thay could possibly butterfly into life changing decisions later on. It was easy to identify with.

I'm not sure if she realized how lucky she was though. To go back and understand the future. Possibly even change some small thing. The book was all very puzzeling and interesting. My only complaint was one of the characters took a jab a Trump and since everyone's doing it now it just gets a little old and repetitive."
"I loved this book! Every part unpacked beautifully."
