Agatha Christie
As Jane Marple sat basking in the tropical sunshine she felt mildly discontented with life. True, the warmth eased her rheumatism, but here in paradise nothing ever happened. Then a question was put to her by a stranger: 'Would you like to see a picture of a murderer?' Before she has a chance to answer, the man vanishes, only to be found dead the next day. The mysteries abound: Where is the picture? Why is the hotelier prone to nightmares? Why doesn't the most talked-about guest, a reclusive millionaire, ever leave his room? And why is Miss Marple herself fearful for her life?Of note: A Caribbean Mystery introduces the wealthy (and difficult) Mr Jason Rafiel, who will call upon Miss Marple for help in Nemesis (1971) -- after his death.

"This was my second Agatha Christie book that I've read all the way through. I had thought that this would be a Hercule Poriot mystery but it is actually a Miss Marple book.

Miss Marple turned out to be a funny and sneaky character. She listened to gossip and rumors and used some of that evidence in solving the mystery. Miss Marple befriended many characters while spending time at a Caribbean resort. But then one of the chatty old men died. Many just wrote that off as normal but some were not quite so sure about that. Those people began spreading rumors which sparked nervous visitors leaving. Miss Marple knew she had to figure out what's behind this.

I was convinced around halfway through that one of the characters was the murderer. But that character ended up not being the murderer and just a very prickly person.

This was an enjoyable read and was written very well. It will keep you guessing at who really committed the murder until the end."
"I couldn’t resist a “beach vibe” Miss Marple, especially as I’ve been reading another short story collection inspired by the iconic amateur sleuth. It perhaps wasn’t my favorite of Christie’s novels, but this is only my second Marple so I’m still warming up to the most highly rated.

I’m curious to read the follow up to this since it does directly involve a secondary character in this book, but other than that it was a interesting “he said she said” kind of mystery. I enjoyed it and flew through it, and what more can you ask on a holiday? I’m just grateful I didn’t have a murder to contend with on mine…"
