Jeanette Winterson’s cover version of The Winter’s Tale vibrates with echoes of Shakespeare's original and tells a story of hearts broken and hearts healed, a story of revenge and forgiveness, a story that shows that whatever is lost shall be found.‘Emotionally wrought and profoundly intelligent... "Content warning before I share my opinions: There is a very upsetting rape in this book. I was sure that was going to ruin the book for me, but WOW Jeanette Winterson blows me away again. This is a retelling of Shakespeare’s “The Winter’s Tale,” which I was not familiar with aside from a general overview (which I think was useful to have that vague familiarity, it made it that much more enjoyable to see how Winterson handled the story and characters). The emotional depth and storytelling this author is capable of are really amazing. It’s been a long, long time since a book made me tear up, and this one did it. Just phenomenal."
