King and Chizmar join forces again with a powerful stand-alone novel that is also the final chapter in the Gwendy trilogy. When Gwendy Peterson was twelve, a stranger named Richard Farris gave her a mysterious box for safekeeping. It offered treats and vintage coins, but it was dangerous. Pushing any of its seven coloured buttons promised death and destruction.Years later, the button box re-entered Gwendy's life. A successful novelist and a rising political star, she was once more forced to deal with the temptations that the box represented - an amazing sense of wellbeing, balanced by a terrifyingly dark urge towards disaster. With the passing of time, the box has grown ever stronger and evil forces are striving to possess it. Once again, it is up to Gwendy Peterson, now a United States Senator battling the early symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease, to keep it from them. At all costs. But where can you hide something from such powerful entities?Gwendy's Final Task is a wildly suspenseful and at the same time deeply moving novel in which 'horror giants' (Publishers Weekly) Stephen King and Richard Chizmar take us on a journey from Castle Rock to another famous cursed Maine city to the MF-1 space station, where Gwendy must execute a secret mission to save the world. And, maybe, all worlds.

"This was a great conclusion to the story of Gwendy Peterson and the Button Box she has been charged with a few times over the course of her life. Being book 3, you really need to read the first two if you haven't already.

In this last book, Gwendy is now 64 years old and a U.S. Senator. Her husband, Ryan, has died and she only has her father left. Gwendy's last mission is to take the Button Box into space with her to get rid of it before someone presses the black "cancer" button and ends life as we know it. There is one person who stands in her way, Gareth Winston, a billionaire who is also on the same space trip.

There are some great references to other books here including It, Hearts in Atlantis, and The Dark Tower series. To read these other titles isn't detrimental to the story, but some things will make a little more sense if you do read those titles first."
"In book 3 of this trilogy, the Button Box once again makes an appearance in Gwendy's life. She is tasked with getting rid of the box at all costs in order to save humanity. Can she stave off temptation and the sinister forces who want the box for themselves?

First off, you absolutely must read the first two books before tackling this one. While this is a good story that can be read rather quickly, there was something about it that just didn't keep me as interested as the other two. The plot didn't have me as hooked this time until the action really picked up at the end of the book. Everything else about the book worked well, perhaps a little more about the new characters in this book would've helped. I will still recommend it though as it wraps everything up nicely.

My appreciation to Gallery Books, authors Stephen King and Richard Chizmar, and NetGalley for gifting me a digital copy of this book. My opinions are my own."
