“I’ve only dared to read it in the daylight.” —Kaly Soto, Deputy Weekend Editor, the New York Times Book Review At the end of a dark prairie road, nearly forgotten in the Kansas countryside, is the Finch House. For years it has remained empty, overgrown, abandoned. Soon the door will be opened for the first time in decades. But something is waiting, lurking in the shadows, anxious to meet its new guests... When best-selling horror author Sam McGarver is invited to spend Halloween night in one of the country’s most infamous haunted houses, he reluctantly agrees. At least he won’t be alone; joining him are three other masters of the macabre, writers who have helped shape modern horror. But what begins as a simple publicity stunt will become a fight for survival. The entity they have awakened will follow them, torment them, threatening to make them a part of the bloody legacy of Kill Creek.

"HELL YES. I am constantly on the lookout for a spooky haunted house novel with a good story. Kill Creek delivered, and this is a new favorite book.

Kill Creek answers just enough questions to make you happy, but gives you just enough mysteries to keep you invested. This is a tough balance to maintain, and Scott Thomas handled it successfully.

I LOVED the characters. There are 4 authors who all write different types of horror, a social media / internet mogul (not entirely sure what to call him, but that sounds good enough for now) who plans the stay at the house, and a photographer to make sure everything is documented. TC Moore (one of the authors) was my favorite. She reminded me of Miriam Black IF Miriam could hold down a job & residence. The four authors are fairly multi-layered, and I loved hearing their stories.

This book has some genuinely creepy parts. I was reading this book tonight while it was dark and pouring rain outside, and I got a little spooked. It was perfect, and I'm always happy to be creeped out be a good horror novel.

The ending gave me chills. I really like how everything wrapped up, and I feel like that can be rare in haunted house novels.

I hope Scott Thomas writes more horror novels because I adored this book. Go read it now!"

"This was a refreshing horror read. I was instantly drawn to the characters. For me, the book was very fast in the beginning. By the middle, it slowed down and I found myself not as hungry for more. By the last third, it is FIRE. Beautiful story. If you like descriptive writing, you'll love it. Felt like this was non fiction and these characters were real at times. The ending is SO GOOD. Overall, very memorable and satisfying read. "
"As much as this sounds weird, this was fun! I love a good haunted house, and this played just enough with the psychological aspect to keep me interested and not bored until the real gory bits came through. Honestly, people said the gore level was a lot, but I thought it could have used more. I am also an unrepentant horror movie fan, so I’m aware I’m a terrible judge.

Horror aside, I loved the framework of this. The writing aspect (coming from a writer...the story was a bit meta that way) was really engaging as a plot device, and the characters were easy to root for. The backstory was just enough to fill in the gaps for characterization without bogging down the story, and the juxtaposition of the different styles of writing were a delight to read.

I really liked this, and I’m so glad I closed out spooky season with this gem! Especially since it opens on Halloween night, I couldn’t resist!"
