Four dead queens. Three days to catch a killer. Two forbidden romances. One shocking twist you won’t see coming.Seventeen-year-old Keralie Corrington may seem harmless, but she’s, in fact, one of Quadara’s most skilled thieves and a liar. Varin, on the other hand, is an honest, upstanding citizen of Quadara’s most enlightened region, Eonia. He runs afoul of Keralie when she steals a package from him, putting his life in danger. When Varin attempts to retrieve the package, he and Keralie both find themselves entangled in a conspiracy that leaves all four of Quadara’s queens dead. With no other choices and on the run from Keralie’s former employer, the two decide to join forces, endeavoring to discover who has killed the queens and save their own lives in the process. When their reluctant partnership blooms into a tenuous romance, they must overcome their own dark secrets in hopes of a future together that seemed impossible just days before. But first they have to stay alive and untangle the secrets behind the nation’s four dead queens. An enthralling fast-paced mystery where competing agendas collide with deadly consequences, Four Dead Queens heralds the arrival of an exciting new YA talent.

"I finished this book 2 months ago and am finally coming back to review it and just thinking about the book makes me amazed by it all over again! While I will admit, it did not have that strong of a start, like 50 pages in or so, I was captivated by the world, characters (the queens!) and had to figure out how it was going to end!
For me, it was definitely one of those books where I had an inkling what the "twist" was going to be, but it was SO well executed that I absolutely loved it!
I loved each of the characters (which doesn't happen often for YA) and really wanted everyone to succeed (well besides the antagonists. But I even loved their motivation!).

My only qualm with this book was the Bury Your Gays trope that was used (granted the characters status is literally mentioned n the title), but still! Don't give me queer lady queens and then kill them off!

Absolutely going to keep an eye out for more books by Astrid Scholte!"
"I really liked the concept of this book, but I felt like it fell apart a bit in the execution. The murder plot builds up some decent tension but the revelation partway through that things weren't being told in chronological order kind of killed the suspense. The characters were okay (though there were way too many viewpoint characters and the antagonist was ridiculous) but the romance was so embarrassing, and the plot twists near the end kind of strained credulity, even for a science fantasy setting."
