"Special Circumstances" - These words have sent chills down Tally's spine since her days as a rebellious Ugly. Back then Specials were a sinister rumour - frighteningly beautiful, dangerously strong, breathtakingly fast. Ordinary pretties might live their whole lives without meeting a Special. But Tally's never been ordinary… Now she's been turned into one of them: a superamped fighting machine, engineered to keep the Uglies down and the Pretties stupid. The strength, the speed, and the clarity and focus of her thinking feel better than anything Tally can remember… most of the time. One tiny corner of her heart still remembers something more. Still, it's easy to tune that out - until Tally's offered a chance to stamp out the rebels of the New Smoke permanently. It all comes down to one last choice: carry out the mission she's programmed to complete, or listen to that tiny, faint heartbeat telling her that something's wrong… Either way, Tally's world will never be the same.

"When I was rereading this book, I realized that I didn't remember much at all from the first time I read it. All I remembered was that Tally was special, and Zane died sometime during the book. Shay was more likeable to me throughout this whole book. Being special is what Shay really was meant for and it suits her better than being ugly or pretty did. Tally, on the other hand was kind of a selfish brat in this book. I didn't like the way she treated Zane in this book especially since it wasn't his fault that he was the way that he was. I was sad when Zane died, but I didn't hats David Aa I had before. I actually kind of liked him, and liked that he had waited for Tally to help her, even after how she had been rude the last time they were together. I love how this book concludes, with Dr. Cable's change of heart and Tally being the only special there, ready to save the world! I'm looking forward to rereading Extras since it has my favorite part of this future: riding hoverboards on mag-lev trains :)"
"This trilogy unfolded as a standard dystopian tale in which the masses are kept controlled. But the forth installment parallels many issues up for grabs in contemporary society: fear mongering, the publicization of private life, the nature of truth, celebrity worship.

I recommend this entire series to anyone who loves a good tale told well and especially to those who appreciate taking a look at our society from a different perspective."

"Review for all three books. I’m so happy I finally finished this series after a 14 year pause. Good book for someone aged 16-18, reading it as a 14 year old I didn’t understand a lot.

This may be a spoiler for some…..
I love how Tally is written. She is a selfish boy obsessed teenager that throws her friends under the bus right to the end. I think her character is so well written and accurate to what some teen girls are like. She has a strong personality that doesn’t change. Sometimes people don’t change and they just are who they are. I loved that she didn’t become a better person, she committed further into who she is. I ended up loving every character except for her… and I think that was the point???

Spoiler…..
I balled when it came to Zane. I kept yelling I hate you Tally. I haven’t cried that hard for a character since twilight when Edward and Bella broke up…. Which was like 14 years ago."
