Author Bill Graves and photographer Jim Amos traveled the Aloha State for months, surveying the charms of America's mid-Pacific outpost. The Hawaiian archipelago consists of eight major islands, and 129 lesser islands and islets. For nearly two centuries they have formed a bridge between East and West, first settled by Polynesians, and now routinely inundated by wave after wave of tourists.
