ONE OF THE NEW YORK TIMES' BEST ROMANCES OF THE YEAR!"One of the most perfect books I’ve read this year."—New York TimesA USA Today Bestseller! An Amazon's Best Romances of August! One of the New York Public Library's Best Books of 2023!She has a to-do list a mile long and falling for her coworker isn't on it—yet somehow he’s become her top priority in this romantic comedy from the national bestselling author of Love in the Time of Serial Killers.Lauren Fox is the bookkeeper for Cold World, a tourist destination that's always a winter wonderland despite being located in humid Orlando, Florida. Sure, it’s ranked way below any of the trademarked amusement parks and maybe foot traffic could be better. But it’s a fun place to work, even if “fun” isn’t exactly Lauren’s middle name. Her coworker Asa Williamson, on the other hand, is all about finding ways to enliven his days at Cold World—whether that means organizing the Secret Santa or teasing Lauren. When the owner asks Lauren and Asa to propose something (anything, really) to raise more revenue, their rivalry heats up as they compete to come up with the best idea. But the situation is more dire than they thought, and it might take these polar opposites working together to save the day. If Asa thought Lauren didn't know how to enjoy herself, he's surprised by how much he enjoys spending time together. And if Lauren thought Asa wasn't serious about anything, she's surprised by how seriously he seems to take her. As Lauren and Asa work to save their beloved wintery spot, they realize the real attraction might be the heat generating between them.

"Again I one hundred percent bought this because of the cover and I'm not mad about it. We have an enemies-to-lovers sunshine-grinch relationship. A cute cover with a heavy story but I didn’t mind. I loved the Florida theme park setting.
Of course, enemies-to-lovers has always been my thing so the banter was nice. All and all a solid story. Nothing particularly stood out. I did enjoy the workplace heat and the subtle quirks of each character. Not till later did I realize I was skimming sentences at times to move the plot along.
Also, the lgbtq representation felt a little forced and some of the writer's views bled into the pages and took away from the story for me. I think Lisa in the reviews said it best. "It's like Ms Thompson wrote a list of everything that bothered her and squished it into a book. Other than that I enjoyed the story though it needed some work to feel more tangible."
"I loved this book. I loved ALL the characters (even asshole Daniel wasn’t bad), which is amazing considering I have DFA’d books because of an extreme dislike of one or more characters. Thompson writes character insecurities like no one else. She handles her characters’ emotional wellbeing with such insight and care. I feel like she just really understands what it’s like to be human. Also, loved loved loved the cover and the tie-in with it in the end."
"I was not expecting this book to hit me as hard as it did. Somehow, Alicia Thompson managed to cover various LGBTQIA issues, the foster care system and parental substance abuse and still have it come out as an uplifting rivals to lovers story.

I love that this book was about real people with real issues; which may be where it will lose some readers. It doesn’t have the dramatic flare of a cold billionaire CEO seducing a barista, but it does have the wholesome, heartwarming, feeling that comes from the idea that anyone and everyone can find love.

My only complaint is that I wish we could have had more involvement from Asa’s roommates. The found family trope is a personal favorite of mine, and I feel like this one could have been developed more, with less focus on the random Cold World employees.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and was satisfied with the ending. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a little more depth to their winter romance reading."
