A divorcee embarks on her “year of yes” and crosses paths with a shy but sensitive birdwatcher who changes her life in this charming rom-com that is perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Ali Hazelwood.Newly-divorced, almost-empty-nester Celeste is finally seeking adventure and putting herself first, cliches be damned. So when a friend asks Celeste to “partner” with his buddy John for an event, Celeste throws herself into the role of his temporary girlfriend. But quiet cinnamon roll John isn’t looking for love, just birds—he needs a partner for Tucson’s biggest bird-watching contest if he’s ever going to launch his own guiding business. By the time they untangle their crossed signals, they’ve become teammates…and thanks to his meddling friends, a fake couple. Celeste can’t tell a sparrow from a swallow, but John is a great teacher, and the hours they spend hiking in the Arizona wilderness feed Celeste’s hunger for new adventures while giving John a chance to practice his dream job. As the two spend more time together, they end up watching more than just the birds, and their chemistry becomes undeniable. Since they’re both committed to the single life, Celeste suggests a status upgrade: birders with benefits, just until the contest is done. But as the bird count goes up and their time together ticks down, John and Celeste will have to decide if their benefits can last a lifetime, or if this love affair is for the birds.

"4.5⭐
I really enjoyed this book! The plot was fun, fast paced, and unique, and the characters were so lovable! Celeste was so fun and spirited, and John was so laid back and gentle. They're definitely opposites, but they're perfect for one another! Most of the books I read have characters who are in their 20s/30s, so it was a fun change reading about characters who are slightly older and have already had more life experiences. Most of this book is set outdoors, and as the title suggests, there's plenty of bird watching, which I thought was really fun! Forced proximity, opposites attract, fake dating, friends with benefits, and dual POV! The spice was good, but the fluff was absolute perfection! 10/10 would recommend! "
"Had to stop reading. I like dual perspectives but not written like this. I didn't even make it halfway through. "

"What happens when a Manic Pixie Dream Girl grows up and is insecure about being a MPDG at 40ish? This book. Seriously, Celeste's personality traits are 1) being a MPDG stereotype, 2) being insecure about how she's "too much" because she's a MPDG stereotype, and 3) divorced mom. John's personality traits meanwhile are birds, insecurity, and trying too hard at sex.

Speaking of, the sex is not good. There's too much and I had to scan past it because I literally just wanted to get back to the plot. Like, I think my man's brain is hot too but I'm not making him tell me about coding while his ***** is in my mouth.

The daughter is following her girlfriend to college while not actually going to college herself but we're supposed to be happy about it because she's doing what she wants. She's 17, she's an idiot teenager.

The birdwatching disappears somewhere in the middle. I regret wasting my time on this because the only decent part was when they talked about birds, there wasn't even that great of birdtalk."
