"I really liked this, a mix of a fictional company and its men placed in a real life series of events and places in history!
This brought to mind a mix of Inglorious Bastards and for those anime/manga lovers among you Vinland Saga.
All the historical tidbits are there with a little bit of fun. While I wasn't looking at this for historical accuracy I enjoyed this very much. If you want that this won't be for you however it's not far off."
"I've read a few of Dan Jone's non-fiction and loved how he brought history alive. This was a fun book, in the same veins as Bernard Cornwell, David Gilman or Simon Scarrow. One thing that was different, that I loved, is that at the start of each chapter it gave the "historical" context in a quote, or event that really happened.

Excited to read about the Essex Dogs again, I would have preferred more POV from Loveday."
