smartphones) but it didn't ruin my enjoyment of the book. The simplistic and innocent view she has of the world clashes with the reader's more experienced one and leaves you with the urge to just sit and contemplate life for a long time and also maybe cry a little bit. All the Ishiguro books I've read have done that for me, which is why I love them so much. You do have to be in the mood for it, though.

I found the ending a little frustrating because it's a bit anticlimactic and it doesn't tell you much, leaving the reader to question things on their own. But maybe that's the whole point, and maybe this kind of ending works best with such a slow, quiet book.

If you read this book (which you should!), my two biggest pieces of advice are:
1. Expect the ending to be more quiet and contemplative than action-packed and full of answers
2. Look back over the ending knowing that Klara is an unreliable narrator and might be unaware of certain things that have or haven't happened.
2d:T5f5,The writing itself was really nice; I liked the way everything was described through Klara's eyes - her observation and sense of wonder permeated everything. I was engaged from the start -- the world they were setting up, and the characters themselves, had so much potential.

Unfortunately, it barely touched upon a number of aspects that, when I started this book, I was excited to learn more about. The concept of AFs, being "lifted", the socioeconomic state of this society, even the father's way of life, all felt like things that they were trying to hint about, but never really were expanded on more than brief mentions by the characters.

Another thing I took issue with was the conclusion with the Sun. I had assumed that Klara's fascination with the Sun and the way she constantly personified it was a naive (though endearing) misunderstanding on her part, based around the fact that she and other AFs were solar powered -- but in the end, the sun really just healed Josi
