Mackenzie Allen Phillips's youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation, and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later, in this midst of his great sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend. Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change his life forever.

"Even though there are parts that are theologically debatable, I think the main message and purpose is beautiful. It's important to remember this is a fictional book, to not take everything as fact, and to cross reference with scripture. It's an emotional, yet beautiful story. How the book came to be is also very neat. "
"This book was what got me to rededicate my life back to Jesus Christ. I walked away realizing my pending doom and didn’t care after being in a cult for 8 years with horrendous “Christians” that were opposite of Christ like. I hated God and everything within it until this book came across my path. There was a two reasons to why I picked it up, novel and an interesting review, “This book is the modern day of pilgrim’s progress” which is an allegory book that was stunning, beautifully written and was a classic. I cried and cried and cried. One of the best book I have ever read and changed my life completely. "
"This book was extremely intense but I think that I learned probably the most I’ve ever learned from a book. It is so thought-provoking and relatable in so many ways, and allowed me to compare everything going on in the book to my own spiritual viewpoints, and left me with a lot of different emotions, as well as a lot to think about. Absolutely love this book and would recommend to anyone!"

"I love this book. So much. It’s deep and beautiful and does such an amazing job revealing God’s character and what he wants for you. I love it. I’d recommend it to any Christian who wants to reevaluate their perception of God, or any person who is curious about God. He truly is Love, and only Love."
"straight up blasphemous, making God into woman. God isn't the divine female! we see this for all iterations that make up God except the son thank goodness but still! Why the push to make God female is just weird. Plus the fact that the author doesn't even believe in hell himself. All in all if i could rate negative bajillion out of 5 stars i would."
"This book needs a warning label on the cover. NOT FOR THE TENDER HEARTED. I don’t think a book has EVER made my stomach drop or brought actual tears to my eyes. Yes, I’ve read plenty of sad stories but nothing like this. If I had to describe The Shack in two words: heartbreaking and faithfulness. The fact that this book is based on a true story makes it even more intense. William P. Young is a beautiful writer. Four out of five stars."
"This book really made me think about the bible and my faith in a different way. Even if it is a work of fiction and doesn't portray things exactly like the bible it is a great story with a great message. It took me several tries to really get into the book but was able to once I used the audio version. Would love to experience this deep of an immersion to fully deal with the struggles we face. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for something different with a deep desire to dive deeper into faith."
