"Mysterious and thought provoking, this is one of the best mysteries I have read in a while. If it weren't for the lengthy, and the odd unnecessary, character biographies as well as (in the interest of keeping this spoiler free) a certain loose-end, I would have given it a five star rating."
"It's strange that I gave this four stars but can't find the words to express how I feel about it. As if the writing was very well done but that nothing had stood out to me. The story was dark, sinister, contained multiple povs, but nothing shocked me or made a lasting impression. <br/><br/>You also didn't have a connection with the killer so when it unveiled him my reaction was "oh ok". Still I enjoyed the characters and the mystery."
"“If you find one, he’s already found you”<br/>⭐️⭐️⭐️.5<br/>A solid thriller with some especially haunting and disturbing moments towards the end. That being said, I definitely enjoyed the second half of this book far more than I enjoyed the first half. I fully believe that this book is entirely too long and would have been more effective had it not been over 500 pages. The beginning was very slow and made it hard to want to continue; while I’m glad I ultimately did, I think it would’ve been better to not have such a slow and drawn out start. The atmosphere of this was very descriptive and immersive which is one of the main factors that kept me invested enough to keep going. The overall plot of a serial killer leaving such an innocent marker as a chestnut doll was brilliant and masterfully executed. This book reminded me so much of The Snowman by Jo Nesbø so I think it would be perfect for fans of that and vice versa. Overall, I think that personally, translated thrillers are always going to be hard for me to love wholeheartedly. For one thing, I definitely think some aspect of the story is lost as a result of being translated. Also, I think not being familiar with the foreign settings, systems, and customs makes it hard to get fully invested in both the characters and the full story. Regardless, The Chestnut Man is an intriguing thriller with twists and turns until the very end that I generally recommend.<br/>"

"The Chestnut Man is a debut thriller by Søren Sveistrup that doesn't disappoint. The story is well paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat. The plot twists keep you guessing until the end. My only complaint is that the characters were a little stale at first, but really come to life later on. Its definitely worth a read!"

"I honestly loved this book so much. This only reason I give four stars instead of five is the fact that it took me so long to get into it. It started out so slowly, that I could barely get through 20 pages at a time, without needing to set it down out of boredom. I kept prioritizing other books ahead of it, but after I got through around 150 pages or so, I couldn’t put it down. It was soo good, you just need to push through the beginning!"
