"This book brought back some crazy feelings and memories of my childhood with my dysfunctional family. It's amazing to know that Mary actually made it thru her childhood and drug activities to become a stable, hard working woman. I know that her experiences helped her to become a great writer. The book overall left me with a depressed and dark feeling. I am thankful that I never got caught up in the drug abuse part of life.<br/><br/>"

"I read this book as part of a challenge to read books that have been sitting on my shelf for over a year. I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, the writing is very good. Very, very good. Most people I know could have summed this book up with "I had lots of sex and did lots of drugs when I was a teen". It takes much longer for Mary Karr to say the same thing, but somehow you get caught up in it. I think for me I keep wondering why anyone would want to report to the world this kind of behavior once you are lucky enough to survive it. <br/><br/>I'm not sure that I liked it well enough to read another book by this author, but she really does know how to write."
