1883. Thaniel Steepleton returns home to his tiny London apartment to find a gold pocket watch on his pillow. Six months later, the mysterious timepiece saves his life, drawing him away from a blast that destroys Scotland Yard. At last, he goes in search of its maker, Keita Mori, a kind, lonely immigrant from Japan. Although Mori seems harmless, a chain of unexplainable events soon suggests he must be hiding something. When Grace Carrow, an Oxford physicist, unwittingly interferes, Thaniel is torn between opposing loyalties. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street is a sweeping, atmospheric narrative that takes the reader on an unexpected journey through Victorian London, Japan as its civil war crumbles long-standing traditions, and beyond. Blending historical events with dazzling flights of fancy, it opens doors to a strange and magical past.

"This was one of the best concepts for a book that I have read, but averagely executed. The reader is taken through 1870’s London and meet an eccentric watchmaker who knows many different futures and can even predict a few. There’s a lot of rich character development the plot relies very heavily on this development that by halfway not much has actually happened. That makes the writing unique and a change of pace from the usual best selling thrillers. There was a vagueness that made some parts confusing or muddled. The book overall was an average read and a little forgettable. 3/5 stars. "
"This book is my favorite right now! It has everything!! It’s kind of sci-fi/urban fantasy. The story is very character driven but the pacing isn’t slow. The characters are so endearing and unique and the writing is beautiful, earnest, and straightforward. The whole book is wholesome, comforting, and honest while also not shying away from calling out racism and the like. "
"Natasha Pulley. Is. Insane. This is the second book I’ve read by her and she does such a good job at slowly getting you invested in the plot until you MUST know what happens without you even realizing. The magical elements were sprinkled in over time in such a good way, and the romance had me kicking my feet. One of the best books I’ve ever read. I love myself a good steampunk Victorian queer novel."
"This was amazing. Such an absolutely absorbing read from start to finish. I can’t wait to revisit these characters in the sequel."

"Gorgeous . Unfolds in a great unhurried but pageturning way . Characters are far from standard archetypes . Seems like it might would be too precious , it’s not . "
