"3.5⭐

The French Girl is a intriguing & addicting psychological drama. I was hooked within the first 20 pages, and this is something I would probably enjoy watching as a TV show.

I think this book would have worked better for me if it had flashbacks. Maybe it's just because that's what I was expecting, but I was a bit let down by the fact that it focused on the present time. It started getting a bit repetitive in the middle, and I would have enjoyed reading about their week in France instead of just hearing a secondhand account.

I did enjoy the way that the story was set up, and I liked trying to figure out which of the friends (if any) was the murderer. Nobody could be trusted, and that was very fun.

The ending wrapped everything up a bit too neatly in my opinion. I know, I know, I'm never happy - there are always either too many answers, or not enough. I guess I just wanted a bit more mystery in the second half of the book. I'm also not a huge fan of romance in my crime and horror novels, and so much of the second half of the book is focused on a love story.

I started getting frustrated by a recurring aspect of the story around the halfway mark, and that may have spoiled the rest of the story for me. Maybe I just wanted it to be darker.

As a whole, I did enjoy this book. I was immediately drawn into the story, and it was a fun read. I would like to read more by Lexie Elliott. Thank you so much to Berkley Publishing for sending me this book. The French Girl will be out on 2/20.

I recommend this book for fans of The Last Mrs. Parrish, The Wife Between Us, The Perfect Mother, etc."
"This book kept my attention throughout and was a fast, escapist read. For me there was no exciting plot twist at the end- which would have been nice- but it still ended nicely. I really felt like I knew all the characters- but felt a connection to Kate and was rooting for her all along. The love affair between the French detective and Lara was not believable- but it's fiction, right?!
Overall, it was a great, enjoyable, quick read."
