"I had high hopes for this book, and we did not click. Hell House has all the aspects of a book I would love, but it's a disjointed story that tries way too hard to be scary the entire way through. It seems like the reader is expected to care about why/how the house is haunted, but almost little to no background is given. I kept hoping that something would change if I kept going since this seems to be a beloved book. It's kind of like watch Scary Movie 2 without any of the fun parts.

I'm going to rename this book Nonsense and Ghost Rape. There's also some weird unnecessary homophobia? I know this book was written in the 70s, but it was a weird transition back and forth between "boo ghosts!" and "lesbian lol". Okay, I'm done."
