"An engaging love story about finding strength in vulnerability." ―Kirkus ReviewsNOTICE TO STAFF: There has been a disturbing increase in cheeriness, sprightly behavior, and overall optimism of late. Please resume your former dark, ominous terrors at your earliest convenience. —MgmtEvie Sage has never been happier to be the assistant to The Villain. Who would have thought that working for an outrageously handsome (shhh, bad for his brand) evil overlord would be so rewarding? Still, the business of being bad is demanding, the forces of good are annoyingly persistent, and said forbidding boss is somewhat...er, out-of-evil-office.But Rennedawn is in grave trouble, and all signs—Kingsley’s included—point to catastrophe. Something peculiar is happening with the kingdom’s magic, and it’s made The Villain’s manor vulnerable to their enemies...including their nemesis, the king. Now it’s time for Evie to face her greatest challenge: protecting The Villain’s lair, all of his nefarious works, and maybe (provided no one finds out) the entire kingdom. No pressure, Evie. It’s time to step out of her comfort zone and learn new skills. Like treason. Dagger work. Conspiring with the enemy. It’s all so...so...delightfully fun.But what happens when the assistant to The Villain is ready to become his apprentice? The Assistant and the Villain series is best enjoyed in order.Reading Order:Book #1 Assistant to the VillainBook #2 Apprentice to the VillainBook #3 Accomplice to the Villain

"Just like the first book, it wasn't the best written and a bit childish at times but I enjoyed the plot. Also like the first book, it dragged onnnn. Also found out that the third is releasing and they might release a fourth makes me wonder if this back and forth between Trystan and Evie will go on and on and on because that's what it feels like. They both are in love with other and know the other feels it too but of course "can't" be with each other so it takes forever for them to communicate. Anyway not my favorite but will read the third God willing it's the last"
"I didn’t think there was ever such a thing as too slow of a slow burn romance, but boy have I been proven wrong. Two books into the series and we’re still will they, won’t they-ing the two MCs? Collectively that’s over 600 pages and we maybe get like two big kiss scenes total across both books? I’m annoyed 😑 The mythical creatures meant to parallel the MC’s have a more intimate relationship than Evie and Trystan. Like wtf?!? I also didn’t really understand the point of bringing in more perspectives when new characters started narrating because it didn’t seem to further the main plot, at least in my opinion. I will probably read book 3, but if Trystan and Evie continue to have this stale of a romance I will be very disappointed. "
"I expected more from this book. I used to love them but reading this a year after the first one I think I've changed so much that personally this just didn't resonate with me anymore as sad as that is. It felt like absolutely nothing changed with this book and like everything was so convenient. There was next to no character growth and Sage and the Villains relationship was disappointing at best and went along the lines of: Sage flirts with random man, villain threatens to kill man, Sage oblivious, rinse and repeat. It felt like everyone loved her for her manic pixy dream girl qualities. Nothing was hard for her in the slightest. Nothing. If you like it you like it but personally I found it disappointing."
"*spoilers*
I love the characters and the banter I enjoyed this book very much. But the fact that were 2 books in and they’re still dancing around eachother with nothing happening is just brutal. I think the story was better than the first slightly though"

"I was so excited for this sequel but it did not live up to the first book. The slow burn was such emotional whiplash and felt contrived. It felt forced throughout the story; like it didn’t actually make sense that the characters would end up in the situations they were in. I didn’t find the story compelling or interesting. I was rolling my eyes so much at things Evie said and did. The first book was funny and whimsical but this book feels like it’s trying too hard. The ending sets up a continuation of the series, but I feel like it didn’t earn it. I feel like this book is just the means of getting a 3rd book without substance of its own. "
