"If you haven't read the series or the prequel this could give you a taste of what to expect. I had read the trilogy, then the prequel and then the novellas. The novellas do give you a little extra than what you got in the books but nothing earth shattering and you could easily skip these. The only one I thought really added something was the Warden, which is kind of a prequel to the prequel, Escape from Asylum.

In Escape, the incident with Madge is referenced vaguely. In the novella you find out what happened to her - sort of. I say sort of because you learn what happened to her but are left questioning how she got to that point. And also really left wondering why Tanner was so angry at Jocelyn in Escape as nothing in the novella explains that. I was surprised that the time between the novella and Escape was very short. When I'd read Escape it seemed to me that Jocelyn had been working there a long time, but apparently not, when you read the novella.

Overall it was an okay read. If you're new to the series or really into it, then might be worth a read. Otherwise you can read the trilogy and prequel and skip these and it won't matter."
