"I was looking forward to Grisham's return to his earlier story type involving complex schemes and a brilliant lead character, but this book missed the mark. It was a predictable, Grisham-like-formula with flat, unrealistic characters. The beauty of Grisham's earlier scheme-based stories was that the reader could believe in the possibility of success right to the end even though the planning was far-fetched. That relied in large part on a reader's relationship with the main character. Was the hero capable of such intricate planning and successful implementation? Sadly, I was left unbelieving at different points in the tale where parts of the main character's scheme became too far fetched, and I no longer believed it would be successful."
