Kate DiCamillo
A National Book Award finalist by Newbery Medalist Kate DiCamillo.Walking through the misty Florida woods one morning, twelve-year-old Rob Horton is stunned to encounter a tiger—a real-life, very large tiger—pacing back and forth in a cage. What’s more, on the same extraordinary day, he meets Sistine Bailey, a girl who shows her feelings as readily as Rob hides his. As they learn to trust each other, and ultimately, to be friends, Rob and Sistine prove that some things—like memories, and heartache, and tigers—can’t be locked up forever. Featuring a new cover illustration by Stephen Walton.

"Kate DiCamillo is one of the most consistent authors--consistently interesting premise and consistently disappointing results.

Every one of her novels' premises interest me, yet I've read 3 out of 5 of them and come away disappointed. I never fully engage with her characters and Tale of Despereaux I also found the writing annoying--the combination of repetition and talking to the reader just irked me.

The ending of both this book and Despereaux were particularly letdowns (the former because it was depressing, the latter just felt weak) while Because of Winn Dixie had a good ending, everything leading up to it was boring and had me saying "so what?"

And why are the mothers all dead? It makes me think of Disney movies where the majority of the time the mothers are dead/killed off.

The sad thing is I know I'll read Edward Tulane and The Magician's Elephant because they both sound good, and I must have some sliver of hope she'll prove me wrong."
"Keeps you interested through-out the pages, carrying the plot out. Unexpected twists."
