"Undoubtedly the best fiction of this century. As I recommend it it find it is not to everyone’s taste. The writing is impeccable and slowly develops a multitude of fascinating characters from childhood through middle age. Set in post war Italy in covers politics; National, municipal, and mostly familial It is slow developing only because of the detail it goes into. The writing is so impeccable the reader is drawn, in hungry for the next chapter of the primary characters, rivals all their lives. "

"Reading a book of Ferrante always feels very intimate. This book takes me back to my childhood in Italy and makes me live again the bright and dark sides of living a friendship through the more or less mature stages of our lives. This book speaks to everyone’s inner child, adolescent and mature self. "
