Every page left me wanting more."—New York Times bestselling author Brigid KemmererFrom the author of From Blood and Ash, one kiss is enough to kill in this instant New York Times bestselling start to the Dark Elements series… Layla just wants to fit in at school and go on a date with Zayne, whom she's crushed on since forever. Trouble is, Zayne treats Layla like a sister—and Layla is a half demon, half gargoyle with abilities no one else possesses. And even though Zayne is a Warden, part of the race of gargoyles tasked with keeping humanity safe, Layla's kiss will kill anything with a soul—including him. Then she meets Roth—a demon who claims to know her secrets. Though Layla knows she should stay away, it's tough when that whole no-kissing thing isn't an issue. Trusting Roth could ruin her chances with Zayne, but as Layla discovers she's the reason for a violent demon uprising, kissing the enemy suddenly pales in comparison to the looming end of the world. “Armentrout works her magic with swoon-worthy guys and a twist you never see coming.”—#1 New York Times bestselling author Abbi Glines “Armentrout is a major talent... "Well, JLA hooked me. I found myself struggling with FBAA but this series I’m insanely hooked. The plot is thick, the spice is alluring considering the heroine. I LOVE the angst between Layla and Zayne, the forbidden love, and the constant back and forth between her and Abbot. The man that raised her but also has hidden so much from her. I wonder if in the end, he’ll come across like a well meaning good doing hero with dirty evil means? What can I say about Roth that hasn’t already been? 🥰🥰🥰"
"JLA is amazing!! Love her style. Great book and loved the romance. Easy and fun read! "

"I love the characters! It’s pretty predictable but sucked me in all the same. I do have an issue with ages of the characters and their actions especially Layla and Zaynes age difference. And sometimes Layla bothered me with the way she takes “yeppers peppers” cringe! But it was easy to overlook. "
"Team Roth all the way. Zayne is soooo BLAH. Also, I FREAKING LOVE Bambi!!!!!! I WANT HER!
LOOK, here is the thing. Does Jennifer have a very predictable layout and she follows a formula for most of her books? Yes. She does.
I decided to read her other books because I just finished From Blood and Ash and Kingdom of Flesh and they were both INCREDIBLE, I can't get it out of my head and I just needed more Jennifer to FILL THE HOLE AND THE VOID OF MISSING HAWKE AND POPPY WITH ALL MY HEART (until the third book comes out in April). Was this better than Ash and Blood? Not in a million years, but it was SO MUCH FUN!
I am OBSSESSED with supernatural (the tv show), have always been, this just felt like watching a very very fun supernatural episode. I laughed at her silly dialogues, I read the book almost in one sitting, I swooned over Roth and I just had a blast.
Do I care her formula is a little repetitive? Not really. It's a good time every time. The only thing I will say I did not enjoy as much is the fact Layla was a teenager, I think I'd prefer if she was a young adult. The whole "being grounded" thing and going to school took the edge of what this book could have brought for me. I am pretty sure I will finish this series, because it is a fun, easy, light read. Action packed, romance packed, the dialogues are great, the sensual moments are awesome and I just love demons, what can I say? Is it silly, not exactly the most perfectly written book and the plot is totally flawed and just focused on the love triangle? YES. Do I care? Nah.
I loved it. I had a great time and that's that. I will finish this series because I also want to read Jennifer's Storm and Fury series. Are the covers lame and stupid? YEAP. But I am still going to keep going for the silliness, cheesiness, stupid dialogues and the whole combo that just guarantees I will have a good time.
We just have to drop the idea of self importance, pride and the feeling that you should always be reading "classics", worthy pieces of fiction or perfect stories. It is ok to enjoy cheesy writing sometimes. Ignore all the other reviews, see it for yourself and have fun!"
