"The end was life goes on with the short story (make sure to read the short story!) But I wish there was a fourth book but I can understand where/why it ended the way it did. The whole series was so much action that I couldn’t stop reading sometimes and also felt tired for the characters. I loved who it focused on what war can do to people while it’s happening and being power hungry. Also it had a lot of underlining controversial topics that it touched in a fictional way and loved that the most. "
"This whole series was really really good. I enjoyed the characters and was sad when it was over. "

"REREAD 2/8/2025:
forever in awe of how well this story is written - the way that Ness adds character voices throughout each book. The use of foils. And most of all how this book will always serve as an incredible exploration of power, love, forgiveness, violence, colonialism, community, and power again.

REREAD 3/4/2023:
I have returned. I have cried. I finished this book in 1.5 hours. I have the urge to write an AP English paper on it despite the fact that those are many years in my past. Symbolism and character development and subtle shifts and writing style.

ORIGINAL:
I just kind of want to curl up in a ball and cry. I feel like my definition of a good book is one when you reach the end and it makes you feel so much you think it was worth every minute of your time, and that's how I feel about this series."
"Finally finished reading monsters of men
It took me 3 and a half months to read this but it was worth it.
chaos walking has become one of my favorite book series of all time. I love the first book when I first read it back in 2018. The 2nd book is by far my favorite of the series and the 3rs book is an amazing book.
I love the writing of this series. It's fast pace and it is very suspenseful. I love the characters of Todd and Viola and love their relationship.
I will give this a 4.5/5 stars."

"Oh my gosh I'm finally done with this book *pulls hair out* it should have been a lot shorter. I feel bad giving this book 3 stars, it deserved more. There's nothing wrong with it, it just wasn't for me. I couldn't get as interested as I did with the first two. I was so underwhelmed with: The mayor's army did this.... Mistress Coyle bombed that... The spackle are now doing this... I just looked up the ending online to see if it was worth finishing, then I decided to skim through.

If not for the chapters told from 1017's point of view this would be a solid 2 star rating. 1017's POV were the parts of the story that held my attention the most, even though he was unpleasantly hypocritical and fickle. I went back and forth between wanting to smack sense into him and wanting to give him a hug. I can't blame him for feeling the way he did.

I like how the author decided to provide insight into the Spackle's way of life in 1017's chapters instead of just making the whole series about the settlers. And now I want a book told completely from the POV of the Spackle. Or maybe just a stand alone book of an indigenous species on a planet that humans are attempting to colonize."
