"If you are reading this and didn’t already know, the majority of this book is a repeat of the first book. I haven’t read many of others reviews on this but a few glances at some and people were not happy about Casteel‘s POV from the first book and felt it was repetitive so they weren’t pleased about it which reflects on the lower star rating. If you didn’t like the first book, you won’t like this one. Also, if you weren’t crazy about the series period but still read all the books why bother? Anyways…

I loved this book just as much as I did the first book. Even more so actually because sometimes when you dive into a “new to you” fantasy that introduces new characters, places, and magic, you might not think too much about certain things going on.

After reading the other books and coming back to it but in his POV, you not only read those interactions again, but get to hear how he feels about everything and I really enjoyed it. Before I realized this was a Cas POV I was thinking about rereading the first book anyways so it worked out well for me.

You start the story off in their real time after the battle, but when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas fears the possibility that unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him and Kieran. She may wake and not remember the people who she loves most including who she is bonded to.

In an effort to try and keep Poppy’s memories alive Cas talks to her while she sleeps. How their journey began, revealing things about himself that only Kieran knows, and how he was feeling from the beginning when he first met her at the Red Pearl.

If you are someone who hates POV books, maybe it’s not for you, but there are a few tidbits you will want to know before the next book. It should be easy enough to skip over repeat information if that’s the case."
"Will put you through a roller coaster of emotions, you will cry, laugh, shake your head at times but overall great book very well written and easy to understand as someone who struggles to understand sarcasm and stuff it was surprisingly easy with this book and it pulled me out of my reading slump!"
"I desperately need the next book.. And the one that follows… love this entire series"

"I completely agree with some of the other reviews on this. 1: definitely could have been a novella 2: Cas’s POV is fine except for that it was 80% a copy and paste of the first book right down to the dialogue 3: we learned some really important things in the last 20 or 30 pages and then… it’s done, over.
This was my most disappointing read in a very long while. I have enjoyed every other book I’ve read by the author, making this even more confusing! 2 generous stars with hope that the series isn’t complete."

"I’ve loved this story since I started the first book! Jennifer L. Armentrout has combined elements of various genres to create a captivating masterpiece. This book is a refreshing and amusing read of Casteel’s perspective on the first book’s events. I loved how Kieran was the first to catch on to Cas and Poppy being heartmates, before either of them even thought of it. The descriptions of Kieran’s POV on Poppy’s questioning were also quite amusing. While I would’ve loved to see more development in the fight against Kolis and this book leaves many questions lingering, it was quite a nice read! It’d be great to see the Casteel’s POV on the other books too"
"First off: From Blood and Ash is hands down the best book of the series. Secondly: this book could have been a novella. Thirdly: Cas’ POV was refreshing to read, but JLA could have had present day Cas tell his POV from any of the books, not just the first. It would have gotten us to the current POV faster. Giving it 3/5 because it does seem like a bit of a money grab, and there were some parts that didn’t seem necessary. Also, for anyone who has issues with how Cas choose to deal with his trauma, all the sex etc, it was a way for him to get some control back after being stripped of all control and choices during his imprisonment. People deal with trauma differently, was it healthy? Probably not. Was it a starting point of hearing? Yes. Now move on."
