From New York Times Bestselling author Penelope Douglas comes a new forbidden love story...JORDANHe took me in when I had nowhere else to go.He doesn't use me, hurt me, or forget about me. He doesn't treat me like I'm nothing, take me for granted, or make me feel unsafe. He remembers me, laughs with me, and looks at me. He listens to me, protects me, and sees me. I can feel his eyes on me over the breakfast table, and my heart pumps so hard when I hear him pull in the driveway after work. I have to stop this. It can't happen. My sister once told me there are no good men, and if you find one, he's probably unavailable. Only Pike Lawson isn't the unavailable one. I am. PIKEI took her in, because I thought I was helping. She'd cook a few meals and clean up a little. It was an easy arrangement. As the days go by, though, it's becoming anything but easy. I have to stop my mind from drifting to her and stop holding my breath every time I bump into her in the house. I can't touch her, and I shouldn't want to. The more I find my path crossing hers, though, the more she's becoming a part of me. But we're not free to give into this. She's nineteen, and I'm thirty-eight. And her boyfriend's father. Unfortunately, they both just moved into my house. *BIRTHDAY GIRL is a stand-alone, contemporary romance suitable for ages 18+.

"I liked this book and the premise of the story. Slow burn is not my favourite and this was definitely slow! It had some 🌶 but based on reviews I had expected more. I didn’t have a problem with the age gap necessarily but 19 is just so young which made some of the story hard to believe. I would have been able to wrap my mind around it more if it was the same age gap but Jordan was a at least 23ish I think. Overall I liked it. Dual POV and on Kindle Unlimited. "
"So this was a difficult read for me. It has a very slow start and slow burn.. but my main issue was the age gap between the main charter Jordan 19 and her love interest and ex boyfriends father Pike 38. She was constantly referenced as a teenager or a little girl- which highlighted her age even more.. she was also going through some tough circumstances. I eventually got over it and finished the book, still felt uncomfortable but good read."
"So I'm going to go ahead and justify that it is okay in Acotar that Feyra is 18 and her lover 500. Why because it's a fantasy. Freya and to become an adult to save her family and there's the whole mate thing and being equals. I will even justify twilight too. That's right i said it. But Jordan and Pike made me feel uneasy. This was just too unrealistic for a non-fantastical story.

At times Jordan acted like a tantrum-throwing child and Pike her father then all of the sudden it would switch to lust. So I warred with myself on how I could compare this to the fae books I read and well I just did. There is too much of a power imbalance. Jordan cannot take care of herself. She did not go thru enough to become wise yet. Pike has had a child. He is set in life and wants for nothing. I cannot express how cringy it was for Pike to tell Jordan to go to her room and then proceed to have fantasies about her.

The inner thoughts which they often do seem to get repetitive. And as it often does as soon as the romance fixed in place the corny words spewed forth. Eww. After a little while, I thought maybe nothing was wrong with the age gap because they both start acting like teenagers, throwing fits and acting out to make each other jealous. Ugh and really, never trust a man that calls you baby.

I now want to pore bleach in my eyes and wash this book away from my thoughts."
