In this international bestselling thriller, a former teacher delivers her final lesson to her students—including the two children that murdered her daughter. After calling off her engagement in the wake of a tragic revelation, Yuko Moriguchi had nothing to live for except her only child, four-year-old child, Manami. Now, following an accident on the grounds of the middle school where she teaches, Yuko has given up and tendered her resignation. But first she has one last lecture to deliver. She tells a story that upends everything her students ever thought they knew about two of their peers, and sets in motion a diabolical plot for revenge. Narrated in alternating voices, with twists you'll never see coming, Confessions probes the limits of punishment, despair, and tragic love, culminating in a harrowing confrontation between teacher and student that will place the occupants of an entire school in danger. You'll never look at a classroom the same way again.

"Wow. Such an interesting and dark read. I loved that the story came full circle and the teacher got revenge in the most diabolical way. Definitely recommend this quick read."

"Confessions had my jaw dropping in chapter one. I had previously watched documentaries on Japan's laws to protect underage criminals. So the fact that there is some truth to this story made it all the more disturbing. The teacher even gives examples of real-life crimes.
Confessions dug down deep into the human psyche and laid these characters bare. The story was thought-provoking and unhinged. It also was a bit short so I never felt the drag and you will be glad to know all your questions will be answered.
The Teachers thoughts on revenge were quite clever. I enjoyed the push and pull of her and the suspects. Honestly how this is still law after the popularity of this book and movie is beyond me. The articles I have read and the example of Confessions just seem like Japan has given young psychopaths a gateway to ruin people's lives forever with little to no repercussions.
Still, after all my previous knowledge, this book was not what I expected. It was clever, had a surprising setup, and twists and turns at every corner. I suggest researching these laws and thinking about what you would do in this situation. The culture shock from someone who lives in the States was a bit intense and just as jaw-dropping as this book."
"This will be on my top list of 2023! Absolutely extraordinary writing! Clean, sophisticated and elegant. I have never seen the storyline set in such way. Brilliant and what a ride. It grabbed me by the first chapter and spun me into a thud of thoughts that will reverberate for a long time. A book of ultimate revenge is what it is, and it’s absolutely masterful and hauntingly horrifying. I highly recommend that you just go into it blind."
"This was absolutely wild, start to finish. I ended up devouring the book in 2 sittings.
You see a lot of the plot points coming from a mile away but, surprisingly, that doesn't take away the enjoyment of watching it unfold piece by piece. [4.75☆]

TW: loss of a child, intense mental illness & suicidal ideation, mild SA scene (forced kiss between 2 minors), & a whoooollle bunch of murder"
"I never write a book review but this was SO GOOD. I read a lot and have been very disappointed lately with books with great premises that turn into weak storyline, characters I don’t connect with, and predictable or ridiculous endings. I wasn’t expecting to like this book at all but gave it a try. I finished in one day and am sad it’s over, but also so satisfied!"
"Not what I was expecting at all. Very interesting point of view"
