On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past. In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine. A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.

"I wasn't sure what to think of this one after I finished. I enjoyed it for the most part. While I didn't love it, I was still intrigued and the last few pages had me crying out for more. The ending is abrupt and everything is left hanging, while I am not a fan of cliffhangers, I also found I was desperate to find out what happened after the ending.

The storyline was an interesting one. It was a variation of the heaven and hell war. While the two groups are shrouded in mystery, we see glimpses of the two through the two guardians that are sent to Skye. I like the variation of the angels. They aren't exactly as we would expect and I was definitely left with the question of just who was the real bad guys were.

While the story is a bit slow paced at the beginning, it definitely picks up speed towards the end. The story was good enough that I will check out the next one and see what happens. This was a decent young adult novel and I hope to see things get better from here."
