NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER * The specter of graduation looms large as Naomi Novik's groundbreaking, New York Times bestselling trilogy continues in the stunning sequel to A Deadly Education. ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Polygon, Thrillist, She Reads * "The climactic graduation-day battle will bring cheers, tears, and gasps as the second of the Scholomance trilogy closes with a breathtaking cliff-hanger."--Booklist (starred review) In Wisdom, Shelter. That's the official motto of the Scholomance. I suppose you could even argue that it's true--only the wisdom is hard to come by, so the shelter's rather scant. Our beloved school does its best to devour all its students--but now that I've reached my senior year and have actually won myself a handful of allies, it's suddenly developed a very particular craving for me. And even if I somehow make it through the endless waves of maleficaria that it keeps throwing at me in between grueling homework assignments, I haven't any idea how my allies and I are going to make it through the graduation hall alive. Unless, of course, I finally accept my foretold destiny of dark sorcery and destruction. That would certainly let me sail straight out of here. The course of wisdom, surely. But I'm not giving in--not to the mals, not to fate, and especially not to the Scholomance. I'm going to get myself and my friends out of this hideous place for good--even if it's the last thing I do. With keen insight and mordant humor, Novik reminds us that sometimes it is not enough to rewrite the rules--sometimes, you need to toss out the entire rulebook. The magic of the Scholomance trilogy will continue in 2022

"WHAT!!! I can't believe I just read that ending. I literally wanted to throw the book. I have gotten attached to these characters and now I have to wait for the next book to find out everything that comes next!! The character development was very good for everyone and all the new characters! This book was way better than the first one at least in my opinion. I need the next book immediately. Such a good read!!"

"Wow, what a ride! I genuinely enjoy Naomi Novik's books, and this one was just another example of how good she is at world-building. Seriously, it had so many details I needed months to get through the book. It was much heavier than the 1st novel, but I still loved it. It especially amazing to see the budding romance betwen El & Orion. "
"I'd give this a 3.5 🌟
This is a very different structure of the Magical School of Nighmares. Since they saved the last graduating class, they now have to prepare for their own, to try and all make it out alive. They all have to try and work together along with now working with the school. Friendships are solidified and makes me curious to see if they will work together in the 3rd book!
While some areas of world building are skipped, others can be repetitive. HOWEVER, I love the main characters and their stories. The survival of the fittest. There are some predictable points, and some I just didn't see coming. I would probably read this again, and I would recommend this series! "
"The ending of this book had me running to my bookshelves to immediately grab the last book to quickly find out the result. I’m so gutted that I forced my poor husband to quickly listen to a very brief recap and tell me if he believes there’s any hope for our beloved characters. 4.5⭐️, rounded down to 4. "
"Dnf'd at 80%.

Well after leaving the first book with a good feeling despite my qualms I hit a pretty big road block here. Again the story was more about telling me than showing me. Almost like a guide to do and not to do. So because of that I couldn't get attached to any of the characters.

The uniqueness quickly faded and it just wasn't enough anymore. Galadriel made a couple new friends and I honestly couldn't tell them apart. That's how bland the rest of the cast was. Also I wasn't sure if it was just the narrator or if the book actually read younger than what it was. Certainly didn't do it any favors. In the end I didn't care enough to continue."
