A family is hunted by a centuries-old monster: a man with a relentless obsession who can take on any identity. The String Diaries opens with Hannah frantically driving through the night -- her daughter asleep in the back, her husband bleeding out in the seat beside her. In the trunk of the car rests a cache of diaries dating back 200 years, tied and retied with strings through generations. The diaries carry the rules for survival that have been handed down from mother to daughter since the 19th century. But how can Hannah escape an enemy with the ability to look and sound like the people she loves? Stephen Lloyd Jones's debut novel is a sweeping thriller that extends from the present day, to Oxford in the 1970s, to Hungary at the turn of the 19th century, all tracing back to a man from an ancient royal family with a consuming passion -- a boy who can change his shape, insert himself into the intimate lives of his victims, and destroy them. If Hannah fails to end the chase now, her daughter is next in line. Only Hannah can decide how much she is willing to sacrifice to finally put a centuries-old curse to rest.

"I absolutely loved reading this story: it was a wonderful mix of plot and character development that kept me engaged from beginning to end. The idea of this being that lives a lot longer than humans, who hunts a family down from generation to generation based off an assumption, and created 007 agents out of everyday people fascinated me. It wasn’t a vampire which was refreshing, but something else entirely. There were moments I was so moved I had to put it down for a few, and the end has THE PLOT TWIST YOU WILL NOT SEE COMING FOR MILES! Which is my favorite kind of read. Hannah’s love for her daughter Leah literally attempts to end generational curses. But was she successful after such a huge sacrifice? I am not so convinced, but I am absolutely ready for Leah’s all grown up story. "
"I liked this book a lot, but I couldn't get into the sequel. The pacing is extremely fast with the string diaries, it pulls you right in and makes you want to keep reading, but I found the sequel completely lacked that kind of draw. I found I couldn't put down the string diaries, but I only made it only about 100 pages in the sequel and put it down forever... so, I think it's more just this particular book I liked, rather than the author in particular. I'm unaware of any of his other books. "
