One of Daphne Wade's guilty pleasures is to watch the Duke of Tremore as he works, shirtless, on the excavation site of his ducal estate. Anthony Courtland is by far the most exciting and handsome man she has ever known, and she dreams of one day being able to speak with him without getting tongue tied. Anthony, meanwhile, only sees Daphne as a hard worker on his excavation team. He considers her a plain young lady and says so in a careless remark to a friend, unaware that Daphne is outside the library door, her heart shattering to pieces. So Daphne decides she will not be so silly any longer. She begins to be tutored in the social graces, forcing Anthony to see the beauty who has been right in front of his eyes.

"I won't lie I picked up this book (as I will do other books) because main protagonists remind me of my OC and my favorite character LOL. It's got a compelling premises especially because I could relate to the female lead so so much!!! It starts out with her having a crush on her employer (a duke) who she cleans excavated antiques for. He barely notices her and then she overhears him bluntly telling his sister about how he views her as less than a woman, as a machine! I kind of understood why he had to view her this way because of her personality. But wow, he was harsh. I'm not sure how I feel about his love at first sight basically being him acknowledging her as a woman and gaining a deep lust towards her.

I feel like it was technically not true when he said he fell in love with her at first sight at the very ending. Because he didn't love her then, he found her attractive? But idk their meaning of love differs a LOT from one another. And it dragged quite a lot near the second half of the book once they've slept together and there's some strange misunderstanding about them not loving each other. The miscommunication got a bit annoying by then. And the ending was not enough, it felt so abrupt! I wished to see their wedding. I did like their dynamic very very much though! and their personalities meshed well, I could see the two sides of her perfectly: the meek and reserved woman and the passionate angry woman and I felt her emotions greatly.

Overall, it was pretty good I'd give it a 3.5 starts. One star for the dynamic, one for the plot arrangement of her being his employer and the forbidden love aspect and one and half stars for execution. Took away 1.5 stars for the abrupt ending, the dragging near the end and the weird miscommunication in between. Also for not giving us the wedding."
