"I would say that this was by far the best of the first three books in the series. I very much enjoyed the way in which Anne Rice would hint to aspects of the past that were affecting the characters' lives in the present. I'm one of those people who likes having a background story and this novel had a huge background story. As with the other novels of hers that I have read, I feel that the stuff from the past is often more interesting than the stuff that is happening at the present. Good, fun read."
