"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that's exactly what my life becomes. Do-over. This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I'm ready to carve my own path. Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a while. That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could've imagined. Thankfully forty isn't too old to start an adventure, because that's exactly what I do. I could've had no idea how dangerous my life would suddenly become. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

"This was a cute book. It follows Jessie and from what is a super mundane life to a very weird little town and to a super cool mysterious house. Filled with Paranormals and a possible future romance. The writing was not all that, and it flies passed a whole lot, but hey, it was fun and a breeze to get through! Now I kinda have to read the other books to find out more!"
"This is a cute book. And it’s not another book with young adults, it’s an older cast with real world problems and it’s adorable and I’m now bingeing the whole series. "

"I was sent a copy of this to show off the beautiful new hardcover with foiling and I must say it is absolutely gorgeous.

Pros:

Having no real concept of the story other than it had magic and someone in their midlife I didn’t know quite what to expect. I hoped some of the joy I got from A Ruin of Roses would in in the pages. I have to say that it wasn’t just there, it may have been better. I have decided that KF Breene should be named the Queen of side characters. Her cast in this book is so quirky and fun. I had so many moment of laughing aloud and some to nearly the point of crying.

I really enjoyed that this book never felt like it was info dumping. This were explained in natural ways through conversations or on screen action in real time. There is nothing wrong with an occasional flashback but they often get over used.

I think this is a perfect book to introduce someone into reading paranormal fantasy with hints of romance. I love the mix of common and uncommon magical figures and their internal politics.

Cons:

I honestly have zero regrets with this book, nothing I felt was missing or could have been tweaked but I try to be fair and think of something for every book so I will say the con is not knowing when the full series of reprints will be available because I need to read more but I have to have the physical copies for my collection."
"This is such an amazing book series. Funny and relatable as a 40ish woman that I am."
