Kate Harker and August Flynn's families rule opposite ends of Verity, a grisly metropolis where violent acts summon real monsters: bloodsucking Malchai; clawing Corsai; and soul-stealing Sunai. The truce that keeps the families at peace is crumbling, and August is sent to spy on Kate. But when Harker's men try to kill her and pin it on the Flynns, August and Kate find themselves running from both sides, in a city where monsters are real...

"Schwab has once again written a novel that makes the reader question how tangible the line between good and evil is. This Savage Song is a masterpiece about identity and finding one’s purpose."

"Mehhh...I was pretty bored with the first half, but I did enjoy it by the end. I'll definitely give the second book shot - hopefully it's like an ACOTAR/ACOMAF thing for me. I wanted to love it so badly.

Where was the background info??? You can't just call something The Phenomenon and then barely explain it!! I NEED MORE DETAILS.

Seriously, I'm sad. I usually adore everything by VE Schwab, and this was just okay. I definitely like the adult books more. Oh, well. It was still an awesome concept and I liked the world-building - I just wanted more information!"
"I always try to mention something good because no matter how much I disliked it, I know the author put lots of hard work into it. So I will say I loved the concept of this. It was a bright idea and I wish I could come up with ideas this good.

Unfortunately, this concept was executed poorly, in my opinion. The style of writing sometimes made it difficult to understand who was speaking in dialogue. The entire first half was slow and the second half was only less slow.

Details were given sparsely, leaving a lot of questions about the logic and world building.
For example, why are people compelled to tell the truth around Sunai? What was "The Phenomenon" and how did monsters come to be from it? Why are Sunai so rare? By today's statistics, we'd be overrun by Sunai. All these questions bounced around in my head the entire time and I never got an answer.

There ARE some rules of logic spoken of, but they're apparently not real. August defied them in one of the fights during the climax. With no explanation as to how and why.

And now I will add the final piece of bread to this compliment sandwich by saying how great the last two pages were. Seriously, they were the most interesting pages in the whole book and it almost made me consider reading the sequel."
