"2.5 rounded up. I really liked this book until the last 20%, and then all the handwaving away plot, conflict wrapping up too quickly and neatly to really feel as if there was any stakes at all… not to mention the spoon feeding of the symbolism. I did like the way they handled her sexual assault, but I absolutely hated the conversation around virginity and possession that happened in the middle of all of it. It felt a little icky. There was also a moment where the male lead implied that the female lead’s sexual assault was worse because she was English, as if the repeated violent rape of a Chinese girl wasn’t as much of a crime. Get ******, Anne Gracie."
