"2.5 stars

When going into this series there is one thing to know THIS IS NOT AN ACTION DRAGON BOOK. The dragons can change form and most of the story all the characters are in human form. You can almost take out the dragon portions and it will be the same story.

This is more of a chick flick than an action dragon adventure. A teen girl hangs with her teen friends, goes surfing, meets a bad boy, rebels against her guardians, gets in trouble, meets a boy that kills her kind, Falls in love.

It is not until the end that the author decides that she wants to add some action. For the most part it is a book that you relax, turn off your brain and watch.

Despite my rating the story does have some charm. Brother sister relationship is good some parts in others it can get annoying (especially Dante). Ember’s friends are decent. Garret and Ember’s slow burn relationship is cute.

The reason that this book is rated lower for most people is because the book is advertised as a action packed dragon story. It sounds like they might be there on a mission or to take down the government. (It honestly makes no sense why they are trying to blend in with humans).

The author had a few ideas of what to do but didn’t do the best job of blending it together. At one point it gets more action. Then we start hanging with Riley. Then we forget about Riley and instead hang with Garret. We focus on being a normal teenager. Now there is something bad going on with the dragon society. Then we forget about Garret for a tiny bit and hang with Riley.

The reason that my rating is lower is because half way i got bored. It is a 449 page book. I like the book but it drags for too long when it is just normal teen life and romance. Then suddenly turning into a action.

It is a love triangle but it does not feel like one until the last 100 pages. Sometimes we spend the most time with Garret. A lot of time Riley completely disappears from the book. We forget that he exists. It is very obvious who Ember is going to choose. Ember was attracted to Riley but i never felt that she loved him. I wouldn’t even call it a crush. She was mostly attracted to him because of her dragon instincts and the freedom that he represent (like in a bad boy way). The book does try to tell us they love eachother though i’m pretty sure Riley loves Ember more than she loves him.

Riley i really don’t care for him. He is just the bad boy. He is very two-dementional. He is mostly her rebellion side. She can have fun with him and learn a little but as a relationship they don’t have a good balance.

One thing that doesn’t make sense was why did Garret suspect Ember so much. He pretty much when to a girl group and picked the girl that he thought would most likely be a dragon. He picked the girl with the most fire. There are a lot of people in this area. How do you know the dragon is in this group? When Ember goes against what he thought a dragon was why did he still suspect her? They had no proof that she was a dragon but Garret still kept an eye on her."
