"Best book I've read. I read a lot, and this one really stands out to me. If you're interested in Japan and like historical fiction, you'll love this. Warning, it is a little brutal and also a very long book but definitely not boring - worth every word."

"Actual rating is 3.5. When I read a book, it doesn’t start at 5 stars, but at 0. About 200 pages in it was at a 5, then another 300 pages, a 4. It stayed at a 4 until about the last 200 or so pages. <br/><br/>I’ve come to the conclusion, after reading several of them, that no book should be over 1000 pages. There is simply just too much information, unnecessary information at that. This book is 1150 pages long and it spends the entire time building up to this so-called “war”, which doesn’t even occur in these pages. Instead, we get a sort of epilogue AFTER the big battle revealing how Toranaga captured Ishido. I don’t know. Maybe I’ve just gotten so used to reading fantasy and their many bloody battles."
