"This is what I look for in historical fiction! The characters are extremely well developed and you will love, or hate, them passionately. Their lives, relationships, and connections interweave seamlessly. The details of Ancient Rome are written beautifully. They are descriptive without getting too tedious. The gladiators and fight scenes are intense… really intense. There is violence and abuse appropriate to that time period, and it isn’t for the faint of heart. I highly recommend reading this if you are at all interested in this time period. "
"One of my favorite books, I re-read it all the time! Something about the characters sticks with you, it’s funny, dark, and also somehow still a love story. "
