Kekla Magoon
Told in a series of vignettes from multiple viewpoints, Kekla Magoon's Light It Up is a powerful, layered story about injustice and strength—as well as an incredible follow-up to the highly acclaimed novel How It Went Down.A girl walks home from school. She's tall for her age. She's wearing her winter coat. Her headphones are in. She's hurrying. She never makes it home.In the aftermath, while law enforcement tries to justify the response, one fact remains: a police officer has shot and killed a thirteen-year-old girl. The community is thrown into upheaval, leading to unrest, a growing movement to protest the senseless taking of Black lives, and the arrival of white supremacist counter demonstrators. This title has Common Core connections.

"*ARC REVIEW*

I enjoyed this story a lot. It was hard for me to connect with the FMC, Sara, at the beginning because I felt like she was too gullible and too blind to see the signs of who her sta!ker was which sometimes frustrated me. It was a bit predictable but I felt like the could just be the purpose of the author so we see Sara's character grow. Once we got to the second part of the book where she gets away and meets Garrett, things do get better. Sara develops a sense of confidence when she finds out the truth behind who she is and the role and power she has in society. Together, Garrett and Sara are a power couple not to be reckoned with and the way this story ends only made me want to read the next book.

This would be a great book for readers starting to read darker themes and I'm truly curious to see how this story ends.

Thank you to The Author Agency and Katie Perez for this ARC."
