Harry Potter spent ten long years living with Mr. and Mrs. Dursley, an aunt and uncle whose outrageous favoritism of their perfectly awful son Dudley leads to some of the most inspired dark comedy since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. But fortunately for Harry, he's about to be granted a scholarship to a unique boarding school called THE HOGWORTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY, where he will become a school hero at the game of Quidditch (a kind of aerial soccer played high above the ground on broomsticks), he will make some wonderful friends, and, unfortunately, a few terrible enemies. For although he seems to be getting your run-of-the-mill boarding school experience (well, ok, even that's pretty darn out of the ordinary), Harry Potter has a destiny that he was born to fulfill. A destiny that others would kill to keep him from.

"It would definitely be a 5 ⭐️ if I was a child and I hadn’t already watched the film. It’s a great book, it’s just too young for my reading taste. "

"I haven't picked up the HP and the Sorcerer's Stone in about 15 years. A few days ago I got the urge to read the entire series from the beginning, rewarding myself with each movie along the way! Not only had I forgotten so many things in the book, but I have forgotten how little everyone was back then!
This novel is definitely worth the read if you have seen the movies, because even in the lengthy films, it was impossible to capture the entire story, as written, and so many more things happen that you don't know about!

I think age-wise it is appropriate for a child with good reading skills at age 8 (about third grade), age 9 if your child is still gaining confidence with chapter books. (They will most likely need help with some of the names as they are uncommon, some other random passwords and spells may be difficult too.)

Plot:
This book is about an eleven-year-old boy who finds out at in rather uncouth manner the truth about who he is. He is a wizard, one that is famous and has been accepted to a school of magic. It's quite a magical world that you are taken into, filled with magical creatures, spells, potions, broomsticks, curses, and SO much more.

If you like fantasy or magic this is a book I would recommend. It's a book that even many people that aren't usually a fan of fiction have loved. So, if you haven't given it a shot...I think you should at least give it a few chapters. Rowling truly takes you inside of an entire world that she was able to create. It's marvelous."
